The Guagua and the Rain

The sky split- searingly-
Spitting down shards of glass
That lacerated skin and
Shattered.
Splintering tuneless on tarmac.

And hailing down a Guagua,
We clambered clumsily inside,
Squeezing amidst sticky skin.
Whilst raindrops clung- ardent-
To our fingers, faces, hair.

Meringue boomed: discordant
Against the drumming rain,
As we jolted, skidded along.
Our bodies cloying-
Compressed into a lovers’ clasp.

And you felt safe.

Safe like the Guagua,
With the broken wipers
And the screeching breaks.
A haven from those tropical storms,
Which devastate me- suddenly-

But now you are the sky,
And I am stranded in the rain.
