Twice a term, Etcetera is published as a supplement to Cherwell.
Cherwell was established in 1920 as an independent newspaper published by and for
the students of Oxford University. The newspaper began as an anarchic rag, and originally fulfilled a function
now provided by Etcetera - publishing students' creative writing and encouraging critical debate of the arts.
Since 1920, Cherwell has become one of Oxford's many institutions and has an illustrious
history, fuelled by enthusiastic and talented contributors and past editors, some of whom have gone on to become
editors of national newspapers such as The Times, The Guardian and The Independent.
Cherwell is published in 32-page tabloid format, in full colour, and each issue currently has a
circulation of 15,000. It includes news, features & lifestyle, culture, comment and sport sections and is published every week
during term time at Oxford. A team of around 45 section editors, deputy section editors and other staff (including
illustrators and photographers) make up the Cherwell team. Their work is published in the newspaper and on its companion
website, www.cherwell.org.
The current Editor-in-Chief of Cherwell is Chris Baraniuk.
